Overview

What is a Servo Voltage Stabilizer?

A servo voltage stabilizer is an automatic voltage regulation device that uses a servo motor to continuously correct input voltage fluctuations and deliver a stable, constant output voltage to connected equipment. Unlike relay-based stabilizers that correct voltage in steps, a servo stabilizer provides stepless, continuous correction — making it superior for sensitive and high-power equipment.

India's power grid frequently experiences voltage fluctuations — particularly in industrial areas, agricultural zones and tier-2/3 cities where voltage can vary between 160V and 270V (on a 230V supply). Such fluctuations cause equipment failure, reduced lifespan, increased energy consumption and costly production downtime.

A servo voltage stabilizer solves this by accepting a wide input voltage range (typically 170V–270V single phase or 320V–460V three phase) and delivering a regulated output of ±1% to ±3% — protecting your equipment from all forms of voltage deviation including high voltage, low voltage (brownouts) and sudden spikes.

How a Servo Stabilizer Works

  1. Input voltage is continuously sampled by the control circuit
  2. The microprocessor compares actual input to desired output (e.g. 230V)
  3. The servo motor adjusts the variable auto-transformer (variac) position
  4. The output transformer delivers corrected, stable voltage to the load
  5. The entire correction cycle happens in milliseconds — continuously

Key specification: Correction speed is typically 10–50V per second. High-speed models correct at 50–150V per second for rapid fluctuation environments.

Types

Single Phase vs Three Phase Servo Stabilizers

Choosing the right phase type depends on the nature of your electrical supply and the equipment being protected.

Single Phase Servo Stabilizer

For single phase electrical supplies (230V AC). Used for residential, small commercial and light industrial applications where loads are connected on a single-phase supply.

  • Input range: 170V – 270V
  • Output: 230V ± 1%
  • Capacity: 1kVA to 50kVA
  • Applications: homes, shops, small offices, light machinery
  • Oil-cooled and air-cooled models available

Three Phase Servo Stabilizer

For three-phase electrical supplies (415V, 3-phase, 4-wire). Essential for industrial machinery, large commercial buildings, hospitals and manufacturing plants with high-power three-phase loads.

  • Input range: 320V – 460V (L-L)
  • Output: 415V ± 1%
  • Capacity: 5kVA to 6,000kVA
  • Applications: factories, hospitals, hotels, data centres
  • Balanced or unbalanced load options
Applications

Industries We Serve

Servo voltage stabilizers are essential wherever voltage fluctuations can cause equipment damage, production loss or safety risks.

Hospitals & Healthcare

Protecting life-saving equipment like MRI machines, CT scanners, ventilators and surgical systems from voltage fluctuations that can cause malfunction or calibration errors.

Manufacturing & Factories

CNC machines, injection moulding, printing equipment and industrial motors are highly sensitive to voltage variations. A stabilizer eliminates costly production downtime and scrap.

Hotels & Hospitality

Protecting HVAC systems, kitchen equipment, laundry machines, elevators and guest room electronics in hotels and banquet facilities from voltage damage.

Offices & IT Infrastructure

Servers, networking equipment, CCTV systems and office electronics benefit greatly from stable voltage — reducing hardware failures and extending equipment life.

Agriculture & Irrigation

Agriculture pump motors are frequently damaged by low voltage (brownouts) in rural areas. A stabilizer protects pumps from burnout and extends motor life significantly.

Telecom & Data Centres

UPS systems, servers and active network equipment in telecom towers and data centres require stable input voltage to operate correctly and prevent SMPS failures.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Servo Stabilizers

It depends. An online UPS already performs voltage regulation and provides clean, stable output — so for loads connected to a UPS, a separate stabilizer is unnecessary. However, for large loads like HVAC systems, industrial motors, CNC machines and kitchen equipment that are not on UPS, a servo stabilizer is essential for protection. Many facilities use both: a UPS for critical IT and electronic loads, and a stabilizer for the general power distribution board that feeds other equipment.
Stabilizer capacity should be calculated based on the total connected load in kVA, with a safety margin of 25–30% added for future expansion and starting current surges. For motors and compressors, account for the starting current which is typically 5–8 times the running current. For example, if your total load is 30kW at 0.8 power factor, that's 37.5kVA — select a 50kVA stabilizer. Our engineers perform detailed load surveys and recommend the correct capacity to avoid undersizing or oversizing.
A relay-type (or tap-changing) stabilizer corrects voltage in fixed steps of 10–15V by switching between transformer taps using relays. This results in momentary disturbances to the connected load during switching and ±5–10% output accuracy. A servo stabilizer uses a motorised variac for continuous, stepless correction with ±1% output accuracy. For sensitive equipment like medical devices, CNC machines, computers and industrial motors, servo stabilizers are strongly preferred over relay-type stabilizers.
